Devizes

Dating back to the 11th century, Devizes is a historic town, with its medieval street plan, Norman churches, Georgian architecture and the Kennet and Avon canal.

The canal cuts through the town and no visit would be complete without seeing the Caen Hill lock flight, a staircase of 29 locks and a marvel of engineering. Devizes is also home to the Wiltshire Heritage Museum, a "designated" museum with a marvellous collection spread over 8 galleries. Added to this are many fine pubs, eating places and specialist shops tucked away in courtyards and old alleyways and a bustling Thursday market.
