Slapton lies within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and midway between Kingsbridge and Dartmouth. It is half a mile inland from the famous Slapton Sands. Slapton Sands is a narrow strip of land and shingle beach which separates the freshwater lake of Slapton Ley from Start Bay and carries the A379 coastal road north to Dartmouth.
Slapton has two Public Houses, a General Store, a well equipped village hall, a church and a Chapel, the Slapton Ley Field Studies Centre and two local Campsites.
Nearby,Slapton Ley Nature Reserve justifiably attracts visitors from all over the world, be it for scientific, educational or recreational purposes.
