Downderry is situated just west of Plymouth. The coastal village has a long sheltered beach made of grey sand and light shingle.
The beach offers views of Looe Island to the west and Rame Head to the east. On a clear day the Eddystone Lighthouse to the south can be seen. At low tide it is possible to walk all the way to Seaton across a mile long narrow stretch of sand.
The Church of St Nicolas Downderry began a mission church to service the growing population of the village. The building dates from the late 19th century.
