Minehead is known as the "Gateway to Exmoor". The traditional seaside resort features a wide promenade and long sandy beach. The colourful, popular seafront is filled with family attractions and amusements including the all-weather attraction at Butlins.
As well as a lively seafront, Minehead has a number of pretty, quieter areas including Church Steps with its lime-washed thatched cottages and the area around Quay Street and the harbour. Little fishing boats adorn the small harbour, which is also a port of call for the pleasure ‘steamers’ Waverley and Balmoral as they embark on their cruises along the Exmoor coast.
A short distance from the seafront is the well-maintained Blenheim Gardens with its colourful floral displays. The 630-mile South West Coast Path – the longest of the National Trails – begins in Minehead, marked by a magnificent sculpture of a pair of hands holding a map.
